More Analysis on Why Biden Will Lose. This Time from A Democrat.
Joe Biden has the lowest approval ratings of any modern president. In fact, Biden's ratings are lower than Richard Nixon at the height of Watergate. When you break the approval polls down by categories such as the economy, the border, national security, etc., the ratings are even lower in many cases. The only national figure with lower approval ratings is Kamala Harris, which is not much comfort in the event that Biden has to step aside. Along with the low ratings is a wave of analysis pointing out Biden's physical, mental and policy weaknesses. That's to be expected. What's unexpected is this analysis. It has the usual critiques of Biden, but it's written by Ruy Teixeira. He's one of the sharpest political analysts around. More importantly, he's a Democrat. That makes his critique highly credible. We expect attacks on Biden from Republicans, but critiques from Democrats are rare because the Democrats tend to move in lockstep and never offer criticism of other Democrats. Teixeira points out that not only is Biden losing nationally, but he's also losing in key swing states like Michigan and Georgia that will determine the outcome of the election. Those kinds of deficits can be overcome between now and next November. The problem for Biden is that he's losing his base. There's a defection away from Biden by the voters who are most loyal to the Democrats and critical to any chance of Democrat success. Black men who typically vote 90% Democrat are now only about 80% Democrat. That's a huge defection. The same is true for Hispanics who normally vote 75% for Democrats. That edge may be down to 60% or even lower. Teixeira has many other data points that should trouble Democrats, starting with a huge defection by union workers and other working-class voters who are not better off under Biden and have had it with false promises, inflation, and declining real wages. Things can always change, and some things certainly will. Still, Biden's position today is so weak that the election outcome may be worse for him than a narrow Trump victory. It may look more like a Trump landslide when all is said and done.
