Will you think that the subsequent 20 years from 2000 (i.e. 2000-2020) would be one of the best in history? I lot of people probably are thinking about that but it cannot be further wrong:
It has actually been the very worst 20-year period in more than half a century (only 1930 through the 1940s was worse). The overall trend is very clear: the stock market return overall is trending down over a long term.
This is a good warning for those who heavily rely on financial products that are dependent on the market performance, e.g. the Universal Indexed Life Insurance. I use this as an example since I happened to be asked about IUL lately by a friend.
